How many times have you said: “I just need..., then I’ll be happy”? Being content where you are is easier said than done. We see highlights on social media from the lives of our friends and families and they all seem to have these perfect and wonderful lives. But they are just highlights, and they rarely reflect the true nature of those lives. I often have to remind myself: comparison is the thief of joy.
It’s okay to want things, but we should not count on them to be happy or content. Colossians 4:2 says “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;”. Thinking and speaking negatively is a bad habit. The good news is, you can break that habit by following the advice in Colossians. Try to focus on what is good and true. When you feel those negative thoughts creeping in, knock them out! Pray and be thankful. God gives us power over what Pastor Bobby likes to call “stinkin’ thinkin’”. God is all we NEED, everything else is a bonus. So let’s be grateful for it!
